Okay, nothing new, but when I was sorting resources, I made few screenshots of original RR arena.
My goal is to remove current arena surroundings that I made from scraps of videos and memory before somebody (jork or digit, don't remember) posted original game files and remake them with proper measurements.

I also tried to recover the original background, but it's too low quality to use it. I can't seem to find anything close enough and free to use:

Good thing is, I got the ground tiles (yes, it's made of tiles that have exact same size as arena), so we can reuse them

If it helps, the original background is a cityscape of New York City, so you might find a similar picture i saw google already had quite some pictures of it that looked similar to the original background. i'm sure there must be some stock images available. I bet you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference if you lowered the resolution.

The color scheme of this one comes pretty close, it also has the same sunrise background albeit a little more yellow (there is a high res one available but its only downloadable):

If you took a upper part of say 3-4 buildings i think you could make it work but you'd probably have to fiddle with the image to make it more black and less detailed, also dim most of the lights in the buildings and change the other lights from blue-ish to a green-yellow tint if you want to get the same vibe as the original. I suck at PS so cant help you there unfortunately . Hope this helped a little.

Well, that is the problem, I'm not too good with GIMP/PS either. We'll figure something, it's not the most important thing right now

Also new season is right in the middle of heat stage, flippers and spinners taking over these last years

Wish I had some more time to work on stuff like that (the city skyline). I think I could do an outline of the city, cut out the background/replace it with the gradient, and mess with the contrast and colors of the city to make it look fairly similar to RR.

We are slowly thinking about getting back to development.We'll probably sit back to it in few days.

Not the game itself, but launcher is almost finished.
It can autoupdate the whole game, detect missing or broken files and fix them.

Our websites won't work for next several hours. We were testing game server and moronic OVH script interpreted it as DDoS attack (really...?), shut our machine down and locked us out. We are waiting for somebody from OVH to graciously read our ticked and fix this crap...
Meanwhile we're testing on my BananaPi behind additional router

Wow, that's pretty bad, how would that handle an actual ddos attack? I man there are people out there who actually do this kind of thing...

Can't players be nodes and improve the performance of game server somehow, I am reading things on cryptocurrencies, and they are generally peer 2 peer...games are already being built on Ethereum base - CryptoKitties xD...

P2P is what killed original RR. As far as I know only lobby was managed by server, the battles were P2P, which allowed players to cheat.
Passing battles through the server will allow us to have more control over what's going on. We'll be able to detect speedhacks and teleports for example. Another example would be verifying damage dealt by player; you can't kill your oponent with poweraxe while standing in the opposite corner of the level. Shop will be calculated serverside, so no "infinite money" cheat from original.

Yes, this puts additional load on the server, but will improve the game overall. And as we said before, if we ever, for some reason won't be able to maintain the server, we will release the server files.

As of images uploads. There will be a rule in terms of use that will prohibit uploading any offensive, disgusting or pornographic images. We will probably scan the uploads directory with porn finder software from time to time and there will be also a "report player" button, or at least form on a website.

I have an important question, I need answer ASAP: did every bot have their own garage? Meaning coins and bought parts. I'm 90% positive that they did, but I need someone to confirm this.

PS. Worst part is behind us. We now have daily progress. If we keep this pace, we might have fully working alpha build before the end of January:)

Based on my memory, yes. You had individual progress on each and every bot.

Yep, individual progress, can confirm.

Main reason for having more robots, besides painting, was the fact you only got points and credits from fighting robots in same ranking class...
I remember losing on purpose, just to stay "-" ranked a little longer and gain more credits for better parts further on...
Then again max wins or defeats of each robots were capped at 32768, so I can't even say how much I had fought...overall stats aren't such a bad idea, but were not a part of original...

Well, our technical cap will be 2147483647 (max value of INT in MySQL), rather unreachable in one lifetime

Also update: we did load test simulating 50 players logging in, getting into lobby etc. yesterday. Generally simulation of 50 guys mashing buttons in menu as fast as possible and we had no major problems, server did it job and didn't crash
