The pay varies depending on the game you play and your skill level. some not so serious players average $5 an hour up to the best who make over $1000 an hour. it really depends on how much you are willing to work on your game, allowing you to play higher.

I dont like to discuss my hourly, but its enough to pay for my university fees, living expenses and still money to save

if you want more of an idea visit 2+2 forums, its the biggest online poker community with lots of knowledge

Awesome dude thank you. I will look that up. Do you have any suggestions on what pokersite I should start being an absolute beginner ? Maybe I should learn the rules of texas hold m in detail before I start playing for cash first ?

if you need to learn the rules first i wouldn't recommend using real money. go to pokerstars.com, download their client and play on the play money tables(fake chips) this will help you learn starting hands and basic postflop play(hand reading) as well as identifying opponents. if you want to take it serious then start at the lowest games (depending if you want to play cash or tournament is another decision you need to make.

I would recommend looking at a book as well while you are playing play money so you can learn about concepts and try to apply them. If you are interested in cash games i have a decent starting book.

I personally specialise heads up(1 on 1). The standard is 6max or 9 handed games

Nice, I have an idea where to start then. I do need to master the precise rules .. that is obvious. Do you think a good player should be good at maths ? I am only very average in calculating and counting, I rather do things by intuition, do you think that rules me out to be a good pokerplayer ?

What do you mean by 9 handed ? the amount of players in one match ?

Once you learn rules then you need to learn how to adjust to different players.You need to have some maths skills, intuitive players can make money but not as much(same goes for strictly math players). All the elite players look at the game from both perspectives. Average players who work on their game can earn around 30-50$ an hour. But this requires a lot of hard work(and its constant). ye 9 handed means up to 9 people can play at once.

Also there is variance involved, so some days you can make 300-1k, other days you drop 1k.

My biggest downswing was 2k over 2 days(over 5hrs total) but once i made 3.5k in 2 days.

having said that the variance in the format i play is much higher than 9 handed.

so if you are stressful/emotional person it may not be for you

haha ye, we have a saying in poker, its like sex, most men think they are the best at it. if you are emotional it naturally isnt for you, but it could also be a method at learning to control your emotions

Using windows 8 on a mac... hm...

I hate windows 8 but I had to get it as one of my programs runs only on windows. If anyone has windows 7 I wouldn't upgrade.
