Today was a busy day:)
Short changelog: -Players have now synchronized map: if I step on the firepit, you can see it. -Weapon animations are now synchronized: if I swing my poweraxe, you can see it. -Redesigned some stupid internal server workarounds (don't even ask ).
And today we had first online "match". (if you can call it that way without enemy's HP/battery visible )
Empty chat messages are misinterpreted weapon animation triggers, a minor bug. Also don't worry, in the final game you won't start inside your opponent
The power axe swing seems rather long, think it was faster, great job nonetheless. Hitting the wall seems too soft, it used to bounce you 180 straight away.
@pionner, great progress! Just a reminder, RR had a pretty simple way of triggering the fall animation that completely disregarded physics. If your robot's center of mass is over the edge of the level the robot will be sent into a frontflip animation regardless of how your robot was positioned previously (if you reversed off the stage you would still do a frontflip instead of a backflip).

It also did very high frontflips when hit by remote charges, missiles (no positive for heat seeking) and mines, even though the robot seemingly flew in the air it didn't affect the fall time at all.
I know it has been quiet here lately, but where on Earth is everybody? 2D4 has been too silent lately.
Just a quick preview of falling animations, speed up poweraxe and arena overview on the start of the battle (GUI is freaking out during animation, I'll fix it later).
Also enemy in the air because tested in one-player mode.

Epic progress, you are the best! I think you forgot to add this last video to the website, I know the feeling of doing everything twice... P.S. Can't sell the game, but no one prohibits accepting donations.

I didn't put it on the website on purpose, it's only a preview of things @digit and @jork were talking about.
Actually keeping project non-commercial means we can't earn any money on it. That includes selling the game, accepting donations, any Kickstarter-like platforms, selling merchandise (cups, T-shirts) etc.

I don't know what persuaded me to search for this forum again after so long, maybe it's been the recent showings of Battlebots & Robot Wars but hey I'm glad I did.
Your project is looking absolutely great. Very very good work, I've watched a few of the videos and I'm seriously impressed. Nice to see that there is still a community and good luck with RRR.
I've favourited the page so I actually remember to check back in in the future.
Quick question, do people use the IRC and if so, when is it most popular?

@digit sometimes, but not often. I talk with Farum through others ways like Skype or phone and IRC is set up for anybody else who have any questions to us. (btw. I saw you join about 15 minutes ago ) Although I try to be there as often as possible, and I have message notification set to all messages, so you can just join and ask questions
As for an update about what's going on: we didn't do much past few days, because of Easter. Farum is implementing networking with anticheat (these two will be very close to each other) and I will start implementing other bot parts after I learn how to export whole thing from blender to 3DS MAX without breaking everything along.
We were thinking about server, and we have an unusual idea. Everybody who want, could setup their own "community server". These would register in main server and handle battles, while main server would provide necessary data to them and redirect players to community servers (lobby would be on main server, so everybody can see everybody). You wouldn't be redirected to your own server (to prevent cheating and network problems). That, with your help, would allow us to run whole RRR on my private server. That means no money needed to keep it running (it's running anyway), and that means we can keep it online basically forever
There will be 2 types of credits in game. Normal (10 for win) and "pro" (1 for win). Pro will be for buying premium weapons. Additionally to reward people who run community servers you would get 5 pro credits for every 24 hours of community server running uninterrupted.
You would download server application and run it. It would ask you to login on an ingame account to get reward credits (optional). There will be video tutorial how to set up your router, Windows Firewall etc.
It is just a draft, not a working app. It does nothing except showing these messages on the screen, done in less than 10 minutes:

About performance: we will have to test.

Hm.. interesting idea. Unfortunately my ISP doesn't allow home servers of any kind, although it may go undetected when it is still just a few of us playing.

@IGIT yeah been a long time, was quite shocked when I saw the forum was still active. I'll try to drop in the IRC every now and then and see if anybody's online
@Pionner I like the idea you have for servers as long as it's an optional feature which going by the way you're talking, it sounds like it is. I would have to enquire with my ISP to see what we're actually allowed to do as we recently changed provider.
I can pretty much run it 24/7 since I have a network I don't use, yet I still pay for it lol, but upload speed is really crap as I said before, so I have no idea if it can be any effective.
Can be open with adobe director, this is where I took the models from. There is a lot of stuff I don't understand. There is also a 3D model of bot in there somewhere.
There is nothing interesting in texter.cst, maybe except prices and exact text messages. I'm unable to open robotwars.cst, I'm using Director 12. Redownloaded the file and still getting fatal error. Any suggestions?
edit. Nevermind, downloaded trial of Director 11 and it's working
