Some of you may not remember me, but I was a part of the rrlobbychat mod group like ages ago. Does anyone else find it real sad that all those great memories are just now fading into nothingness? The heyday of Robot Rage was almost 9 years ago now, and it really is a disappointment to see it become the way it has now.

I just really fucking miss the memories, I guess.
Part nostalgia, and part disappointment

Love you all, for those that still remain.

Hey! Great to see you back! I can totally understand your sentiments towards the good ol' days. I often reminisce on those times, wishing that we could one day relive them in a way other than mere memories. Maybe one day... that's what I keep telling myself, but it seems quite ridiculous when I think about it. Those days are gone, but I am so glad that they happened. There will always be a special place in my heart for RR and all those who I've come to know because of it.

Love you too, and all others who are still loyal enough to grace the wasteland of the survivors.

Ye, I am glad they happened, but we cannot revive the past. Just be open to the future Smile I hope everyone has a good life and awesome things happen.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I sometimes get into deep thought and get nostalgic over those days and this game. It really was one of a kind and I can't believe that all Raketspel has to say for it is "oh well". They would make so many people happy and so much money but there are some people in this world that just have to suck. Maybe one day either I or someone can find a way to re-create this game and make an almost identical version. Just a thought. But anyways, I miss the good ol' days too.

With battlebots return for a 2nd season (after a break) and robot wars coming back the popularity should raise tbh, it's time to make this happen already.

It's really a shame that an idea so good (robot rage) went to the dumps. I know I'm not the biggest gamer out there by any means, but I have yet to find a game with the customization, strategy, and addictiveness as robot rage. With modern day technology such as anti-hack patches, better connectivity, physics, and graphics, robot rage would be amazing. Even if they just brought back ol' RR2 I would be more than happy.

That being said, nice to see this forum active again after so long...

It really would be nice to have a game like Robot Rage again. I hope one day either it or something close to it is brought back to life! And I agree, it is nice to see activity in the forums. Nice to see you again digit.

I just wonder sometimes. I mean the files that hosted the RR servers should still be somewhere right? Just sitting there on some hard drive or something inside the raketspel building. it's kind of a sad thought and a waste that those files have never been made public.

The files are there, it's just we are too stupid to set up our own database, I wish I knew how this stuff worked, would have a private server running in no time. Need someone skillful for this.

Maybe my college degree will come in handy some time then... the only databases I know how to set up currently are SQL based, and I highly doubt that is how RR ran. P2P is a mystery to me, and it is quite out-dated, however, it is also a ton cheaper then having your own server as far as I know.

I still have the files that RR ran off of.. The problem is that in order to set up our own database we must be able to know the source code of where the database files are being hosted/pointed to and we have to know how the database ran and what kind it was. I have no idea how the peer2peer network worked and there's also the issue of the member database where all of our login and bot information were saved. The information is saved in values/strings that have specific names for each string. This is something that only Raketspel would be able to provide. We must get them to give us some kind of information on it or it will be hell trying to ever figure it out.

I'm no expert at all, but wouldn't there be pointers to the database within the files? Is there just no easy way to read them? Eh, even knowing that probably wouldn't help much, Raketspel probably deleted all the data from them anyways, I don't know why they would keep it up after so many years.

I'm not sure as I haven't fully checked. I can always send the RR files to you and take a look at them but as far as I'm concerned they seemed to point to miniclip rather than raketspel.

I remember Carlos explaining to my bro how to open RR files with adobe director, yeah, some things did link to miniclip, if I remember correctly, my bro said he had posted a thread on this forum with all the files, so might wanna look for it.

Just looked through the topics he himself made and couldn't find any files on RR2 (He did post some RR3 files...)

Regardless, Happy Birthday, Dist!

Looking at http://www.miniclip.com/scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js and I see miniclip did not have the best programmers...
Code:
var isIE = (navigator.appVersion.indexOf("MSIE") != -1) ? true : false;

could easily just have been written as
Code:
var isIE = (navigator.appVersion.indexOf("MSIE") != -1);

but also this in main.ini ...
Code:
newsflash = "lol"
news = "lol2"
messages = "lol3"
message = "lol4"

lol

Going to miniclipirc.shockplay.com actually takes you to http://wundergames.com/ but if you look at the bottom you will see "© Raketspel". Under contact you can see
Hammarn wrote:

Although Robot Rage is not under their list of games obviously, it might be worth a try contacting them.

Found an interesting post post when looking up 195.43.255.215 (the ip listed under [server] in tha main.ini), it was posted back in 2005 and has the code used to debug RR. I get a 404 when I try to go to the BETA dcr. Lime JR also links to this, which includes mentions of King Hax, AG, Dalmat, Hippos Chat, and the Lone Ranger to name a few.

Here is another post I found with an earlier version of the default.php (I'm assuming)... I calls for loader.dcr rather than loader002.dcr

I cannot open the .dcr files as they are protected. I found this article and it appears that maybe we should be looking a .dir files instead (if anyone has them).

Another mystery is what the "sw1" parameter is in the object for the loader. They appear to be IP addresses, but loader002.dcr links to Portugal and loader.dcr links to the Dominican Republic

From what I can tell, all of the queries to the database went through http://miniclip1.shockplay.com/minicliprw, specifically http://miniclip1.shockplay.com/minicliprw/main.asp , it appears those files are no longer accessible, but if anyone has them I bet they would link to the database and show how data was handled.

I'm also concerned about the integrity of the .php files. There are a couple blank comments () at the top of the page, which most likely indicates that php code was not saved to the file properly. This is no surprise, as php is meant to be invisible to the clients, but the code may have held some key information we need. As I have not been able to open up the .dcr files I do not know all that they do, but I after looking at some RR links in the way back machine, it appears that a call is made to the main.ini file with a "tick" query. See what I mean here while inspecting the network requests. Unfortunately the wayback machine does not have a valid pointer to main.ini, I tried resending the request to the local main.ini on my computer but that did not seem to do anything. Apparently there was also a loader003.dcr according to wayback machine. http://miniclip2.shockplay.com/robotrage/rearmed/loader003.dcr does not open up, however...

I managed to get loader002.dir by saving the response from the wayback machine's request to get loader002.dcr and putting the proper syntax to let the computer know that the source is in base64 and type is application/x-director. For the curious, this is what it looked like as the src for the embed. Unfortunately I am still unable to open it with any programs I have come across. Oddly enough, when I first loaded the .dir, another directory appeared called RobotRage_Files. I also managed to get loader.dir, but I cannot open that one either...

CarlosMarti123 knew how to access the.dcr, don't know if he is still around, I have instructions somewhere on my computer, it requires an old version of adobe director.
I don't have the time to search right now, but I hope to find it by tomorrow.
Or maybe my brain doesn't remember this correctly and there was no way to access the .dcr.

Good news!  I've managed to extract with Director the cast members from the DCR files, and even from the Shockwave 3D cast members themselves! This means that we not only have access to the members included in the robotwars and texter CCT files, but to those files that are in the game itself! This includes the graphics/sounds/etc used for weapons, arena, and navigation (such as panels, buttons, weapons, arena floor, barrel texture, wall graffiti, firepit, elevator, etc)  I don't think anyone in th history has ever done this before, it took me quite a bit of search for a working method with scripts and plugins. Though I haven't extracted the Lingo code, we now basically have ALL the raw graphic/sound/3dmodel/etc files that are used in Robot Rage. Smile

Yes, apparently he DID access these files. But he also mentioned that the .asp files that linked to the server were never of any use to us. We'd basically still need to figure out how to make a server and set up a p2p connection on our own...

Well, it might still be cool to check it out nonetheless
here are the instructions
Code:
Ctrl+Shift+C

extlib        mark External   ...Ok
Window>Cast>extlib

Ctrl+M

castLib ("extlib") .filename ="http://miniclip2.shockplay.com/robotrage/rearmed/v060/robotwars.cct"

castLib ("extlib") .filename = "http://miniclip2.shockplay.com/robotrage/rearmed/v060/texter.cct"

v055/login014.dcr

castLib ("extlib") .filename = "http://miniclip2.shockplay.com/robotrage/rearmed/v055/factory0601.dcr"

SERVER~1

castLib ("extlib") .filename = "http://miniclip2.shockplay.com/robotrage/rearmed/v060/texter.cct"
As those links no longer work, just use the re-hosted links. I have absolutely no idea if it will open in the latest adobe director version, I think it could be open with the 6th version, no idea if one can still obtain it anywhere.
